Aiki No Kami 2009: a great succes, a great potential
The first edition of the international Aikido seminar Aiki no Kami took place on June 13th and 14th in Montreal, and it was a huge success. On both martial and human points of view, the event was rich and intense.
It is in the facilities of the Academy Martial Serei, which host Aiki Dojo Omoto and its Aiki no Kami project, that participants and guests sensei gathered to practice several styles of Aiki. During these two days, visiting professors generously taught for over 30 hours to small groups of practitioners, giving them access to personal contacts. This new formula was made possible by the configuration of the dojo and has been appreciated by most participants. The friendly atmosphere and open minds of the hosts marked the seminar, both among the participants and the sensei. The presence of Pat Hendricks and Don Angier, which specially came from California, was a highlight of the event, adding their names to a bunch of already very interesting and varied local sensei.
A cultural touch
In addition to all the martial teachings, artists have added to the festive flavour that characterized Aiki no Kami. Indeed, the Japanese drums group Arashi Daiko were generous in their performance on Saturday through their almost martial rhythm. On Sunday, the Japanese bow Suiko Dojo seduced the audience with the precision and intensity of their performance.
In short, about thirty participants from the north-eastern United States and Canada and numerous visitors were the first to experience Aiki no Kami, and seemed to be amazed. Thank you to these courageous pioneers! The event is a unique annual gathering that redefines the world of Aikido. True friendships have been created during these few days and the scale of opportunities is growing.
However, the event did not meet its profitability targets. Your contribution is needed to enable this out of the ordinary project to push its limits. That is why we seek the help of all those who feel touched by the event and its values: fellowship, genuineness, openness of mind and heart, etc. A donation program was launched and includes: sponsorship, funding workshops, memberships, Aiki no Kami 2009 DVD, official bag and t-shirt, etc.. Everything will soon be available on www.AikiNoKami.com, which is currently under construction. You're invited to contribute now using Paypal secure website.
We thank you and wish to see you soon,
The Aiki No Kami team

We believe that Montreal has all the potential to be a cornerstone of Aikido in America, as it is a very unique and popular city for special events.
